ANNOUNCEMENT

The Department of Philosophy and Social Studies, School of Philosophy, University of Crete has organized an international, interdisciplinary Symposium in honor of the composer MIKIS THEODORAKIS (please see Theodorakis's web site), who has received an Honorary Doctorate from our department.
This symposium is entitled:

The Symposium will take place on Friday 10 and Saturday 11 March 2006 in Hersonisos, Heraklion, Crete, Greece, at the Creta Maris Conference Center. The official languages of the Symposium are English and Greek, with simultaneous translation.

The aims of the Symposium are to give a wide interdisciplinary consideration of the nature and vital importance of Music, and to discuss, with this as background, Theodorakis's theory of «Universal Harmony» - a theory that has guided his life, actions and works since his adolescence.

In addition to Mikis Theodorakis, speakers at the Symposium - university professors and researchers in many fields of science and the humanities from the Universities of Crete, Athens, Thessalonica, Edinburgh, London, Paris, Uppsala, New York, Cornell and Columbia - will give their views concerning the challenging phenomenon of Music.

Their talks at the Symposium will be grouped under following headings:
