About

The Department of Philosophy and Social Studies in the School of Philosophy is one of the oldest departments of the University of Crete. Its fundamental purpose is to promote the study of Philosophy and the Social Sciences both on their own right and in their interconnections, through high level research and teaching in both academic fields. Our academic staff systematically pursues and has achieved through its research output a strong presence in the academic world, both on a national and on an international level.

The curriculum has been designed so as to grant its students broad knowledge in the humanities and the social sciences, as well as to acquaint them with different research methodologies and equip them with strong research skills. This cause is further promoted through a lively programme of research events, including seminars and colloquia throughout the academic year as well as frequent international conferences.
